Known for its delectable signature drink, the center of Porto is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site with lovely architecture. Visit the vibrant downtown district, see landmarks like Clerigos Tower and Sao Bento station, and try some signature local wines and food (own expense). Let´s discover that magnificant city together.
1.Historical Center of Porto
The Historic Centre of Porto, the oldest area of the city and classified as World Heritage by UNESCO since 1996, is comprised of the civil parishes of Sé, Vitória, São Nicolau and Miragaia (including the Porto Wine Lodges). Dating back to Mediaeval times, and despite all the changes over the years, the Historic Centre of Porto maintains its unique urban characteristics, which are a world apart from other European cities... that's why you really must take a walk through the typical streets in this part of the city, where you'll notice various monuments of incalculable cultural wealth and value, as though time had stood still in the Middle Ages!
2. Tower of Clérigos
The Clérigos Church was one of the first baroque churches in Portugal to adopt a typical baroque elliptic floorplan. The altarpiece of the main chapel, made of polychromed marble, was executed by Manuel dos Santos Porto.
The monumental tower of the church, located at the back of the building, was only built between 1754 and 1763. The baroque decoration here also shows influence from the Roman Baroque, while the whole design was inspired by Tuscan campaniles. The tower is 75.6 metres high, dominating the city. There are 240 steps to be climbed to reach the top of its six floors. This great structure has become the symbol of the city.
3. Bridge of Dom Luís I
The double-decker Dom Luis I bridge is an icon of the city of Porto. It spans the River Douro linking the Port wine houses of Vila Nova de Gaia with the bustling downtown Ribeira district of Porto. Construction took place between 1881 and 1886 with the bridge being built adjacent to an existing bridge which it replaced. The granite pillars of the original bridge are still in place, standing on the Ribeira like a pair of gate posts.
4. Cathedral da Sé
The Porto Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in the historical centre of the city of Porto, Portugal. It is one of the city's oldest monuments and one of the most important local Romanesque monuments.
5.Caves os Porto Wine
If you discover the Caves os Porto Wine, where this wine is aged after being carefully harvested and prepared on the slopes of the Douro region, you'll discover the history of this product, which is the brand image of this city.
6.Douro Marina
5.The typpical portuguese venice – Aveiro
Aveiro is known as the Venice of Portugal, because, like the Italian city, it also has an estuary that runs in the centre of the city, where boats known as Moliceiros circulate, which cross the estuary during sightseeing tours. The Aveiro district, in addition to the tourist attractions in the city, has much more to offer in other locations, from beaches to unique sweets in Portugal, which make visiting Aveiro an experience like no other.
